Back in the game...

Quick update:

Three stories submitted to Strange Horizons, Darker Matter & Weird Tales. I heart e-subs.

Two stories lingering in the no-man's-land of "Should I trunk it?" "Should I mail it?"

One story waiting for Sword & Sorceress to open.

And a partridge in a pear tree.

Sent a story off to the Shimmer Pirate Issue, a whole 24 hours before the deadline. To a procrastinator, that's like turning it in a week in advance.

The week has improved, although the underlying issues are still lurking.

In which fishywish addresses the universe

Dear universe,

I am having a bad week. Again. I don't want to talk things over. I don't care about the law of averages and into each life some rain must fall, & etc. This is not a wish. This is a cease and desist letter.

Knock it off!

Yours most sincerely,

Urban Ecosystem

Our local flock of wild parrots are nesting in our pecan trees complaining about the rain. They are incredibly loud. When one squawks, they all do, resulting in a continual cacophonous chorus.

And the poor squirrels have been driven to the fences.

Okay, so seriously...revising a novel takes for-freaking ever. I'm flailing through the text, tweaking here, re-researching there, making little notes to myself in [brackets]. Revision is a different skill than drafting, and I have the sinking feeling that I'm not very good at it.

Call me a wuss, but I much prefer doing things that I'm good at. Hey, there's a shiny novel-sized plot over there....

Rose petals, marching bands, touchdowns & etc... For the fishywish household, it's all about the flyover.

The sheer beauty of this aircraft in flight is incredible. When it flies overhead on New Year's morning, I don't care that it's a machine of war, and I'm rather a dove. I'm awed that this machine was built by human hands, and I think that if humans can build something so breathtaking then anything is possible. It's sentimental, but I love starting my new year with that hope.

Do something impossible this year.

I saw a movie in a movie theater

Saw Pan's Labyrinth. It was pretty darn good, and I didn't mind the subtitles at all. It was dark subject matter though--a fairy story that is not for children. Thumbs up on the visuals--in that respect it reminded me of Mirrormask. The dude with the eyes is just awesome. I'll say no more to avoid spoilers, but see this one if you can.
